Questions
The Adoption Process

Read about our available pets on our link to Petfinder.com.  If you are interested in adopting, please fill out our online application. When we see a potential match between what you describe as your ideal friend and the personality of the rescue, we will email you to set up a time to speak and/or set up a home visit. We do home visits and reference checks to insure that all of our rescues land in safe place. Once a home visit is complete we will arrange for you to meet the animal.  Should there be a match and you decide to adopt, we will have you sign an adoption contract and you'll do your adoption donation (ranges $300-$650).

If an animal is not yet adopted then it will be shown on Petfinder, we remove the pets when their adoption contracts have been executed.  Sometimes an animal posted is in process of having references checked and home visits performed and some may have multiple applications.

We are based in New York City so due to logistics and the location of our volunteers, most of our rescues are placed within the five boroughs, or what we consider the "sixth borough" (Hoboken/Jersey City).

Frequently Asked Questions
How Long Does the Process Take?

The process can take anywhere from three days to about three weeks - depending on multiple factors such as responses from references, location of animal and volunteer availability.  In some cases our animals come from Midwest kill shelters and transport schedules to New York City depend on volunteer's ability to take time off work.  In those cases the wait can be longer.

How Much Does Adopting Cost?

Our adoption donations range $300-$650 depending on factors such as demand for a particular breed, age and location/transport costs.  Donations for young healthy animals help us pay veternary costs to rehab other animals.

What Is the Difference Between Adopting and Fostering?

We prefer to adopt when possible.  Should we think that a foster-to-adopt option might make sense we will suggest it to potential adopters. We also look for volunteers to "foster-to-foster".  These are volunteers that provide a temporary home for the animal while the proper adoptive family is found.  Foster parents get to know the animal well, help us assess the personality of the animal, help train and the animal and treat it as a part of their family. They volunteer their time and resources to help us re-home the animal into a forever home.  The insighs they provide help us insure a happy animal and happy family.

Will I need Additional Veterinarian Services?

We vaccinate, microchip and spay/neuter our rescues before they are placed into homes. After adoption, new families should arrange an initial vet visit on their own so that they establish a relationship with a vet of their choice.

Can I take A Pet Home Directly From the Shelter?

We do not have a public shelter that can be visited.  Historically, we have shown animals at petstores on the UWS, UES and Park Slope.  When we show animals, the location is posted on our facebook page the morning of the event.  However, due to the pandemic, we have been showing less and relying more on online resources.  Typically adopters pick up an animal from a foster's location, a meeting at a pet store or from an adoption event.
